A fire that started in the yard of a house and then spread into it, displacing a whole family, was reported by Round Lake Fire Department early on Monday.
A structure fire was reported in the 900-block of Lunga Drive, Round Lake at 12:05 am on Monday. The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District immediately responded.
Battalion chief Tony Carraro of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District said that when crews arrived, they found a manufactured house with damage to its vinyl siding and plywood sheathing.
Before the arrival of the firefighters, the main fire body and the garbage bin where it had started were put out.
Carraro stated that firefighters investigated the fire and discovered it above the soffit of the roof assembly.
The firefighters were able stop the fire before it reached the living area of the house, but they did suffer some smoke damage and minor water damage.
Carraro stated that firefighters extinguished this fire within 10 minutes, and continued to extinguish hotspots and perform salvage work for another hour.
Paramedics treated one occupant at the house and released him on the spot.
Carraro confirmed that no firefighters had been injured in the incident. Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of this fire.
American Red Cross has been asked to help a family whose house is no longer habitable because of fire damage.
Grayslake and Fox Lake firefighters, as well as those from Wauconda, Lake Villa, Antioch and Wauconda, assisted on the scene. They also covered Round Lake’s fire stations.
