Vandalizing speed cameras that can see into vehicles is already being done by angry drivers to protest against the new technology.

The angle grinder is believed to be the tool used by vandals to remove a VECTOR SR speed camera from A394 near Helston, Cornwall.

Last week, police were called out to Longdowns in Penryn after another static speed camera was smashed.

The vandalism is not the first. Two more cameras that monitor a zone of 30mph in Perranarworthal have been damaged.

Ian Thompson, Superintendent for Local Policing of Devon and Cornwall Police, condemned the vandals and criticized their actions.

The criminals who have been damaging the average speed cameras around West Cornwall are deeply worried.

These acts endanger the public, divert resources away from vital police activities, disrupt the local community, cause road accidents, and place a heavy burden on taxpayers.

Our investigations are ongoing and we encourage the public to share any information or report suspicious activities that could aid in our inquiries.

Cornwall Live reported that police estimated the average cost of repairing a speed camera at around PS20,000. Drivers are encouraged to call the police with any relevant information.

VECTOR is a more advanced speed-monitoring device than any other, and uses low-light technologies to capture motorists.

Infrared technologies will ensure that drivers are not “flashed”.

These cameras are described as being “ultra” and can capture both directions of traffic, and also spot anyone speeding up, talking on their phone, or not wearing a safety belt.

Miles Kenchington is the Mayor of Helston and described the cutting down of the speed cameras as an “illegal act” that was a form of vandalism.

He said: “I do not think that it is clever, it does not seem to me big.”

The mayor suggested the incident could be a copycat after a series of incidents across the UK that targeted “anti-motorists” measures. Protesters in Wales, for example, spray painted over signs limiting speed to 20mph.

The so-called Blade Runners are also responsible for blocking, destroying and even stealing Ultra Low Emmission Zone cameras in London.

Metropolitan Police have responded to hundreds incidents that involved the Ulez cameras and mobile camera vans, which are used to verify if the drivers follow the rules.

A Londoner dressed as Grinch was seen blocking an Ulez van in a video that appeared on social media.

The protester was seen climbing a ladder and posing in front of a sign that read “the Grinch Hate Ulez”.
